We have all eventually dried out after being completely soaked at this year's Irish Open in Baltray! The Irish weather certainly lived up to its name, raining so heavily that not only was the course closed at one point but the car parks were also converted into marshland and had to be closed too! Our Tour Team got caught up in the weather with many other spectators mid-week as our Tour Van also sank into the mud!
The weather was however completely overcome during the week by a fantastic Tournament and an amazing victory for local Irish amateur Shane Lowry that brought out the crowds despite the conditions.
Having set up our Tour players for the Tournament, our Tour Team joined Robin Daly in our stand in the Tented Village and were kept busy during the week, as more than 70 visitors to our stand were custom fitted for a Daly Golf putter - hopefully the weather will improve for the rest of the season so you can all get out to use them! We are also very grateful for all those who stopped by our Charity putting green in the Tented Village and had a go on the green ignoring the pouring rain. As was released in our News earlier this month, all week at the Irish Open we ran a putting green competition in the Tented Village, as we did in 2008. Held in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, all who had a go round our 9 hole course for €1 played for a chance to win one of our daily prizes - including Tour bags, custom fitted putters and accessories.
As an added bonus for the week, we also asked all the Professional players in the Irish Open to autograph one of our 2009 Tour Bags and some Tour Caps, which we gave away in a prize draw all those who entered the putting competition were entered for, along with a mobile phone kindly donated by Tournament sponsors, 3. Thanks are also due to the European Tour for organising the players to sign the Tour Bag and Caps. Congratulations to all our winners both in the prize draw and putting competition - with some nail biting and closely contested final rounds each day, the event was extremely successful - the photo, top left, illustrates the conditions on the green and the determination required to go out and putt!
Despite the conditons and thanks to all the players who had a go during the week, we raised a massive € 1213.93!
Robin Daly had great pleasure in presenting Linda Keating from the Keating foundation with a cheque for this amount, pictured right, and The Keating Foundation were as delighted to recieve the cheque as we were to be able to present it - there is no doubt it will certainly be put to very good use.
We are already looking forward to our 'home event' next season, and hopefully some better weather! |
